The 15th New Talent Mid-Central USA Singing Contest was held at Furama Restaurant on May 27th, 1996. On June 2nd, 1996, the finalists gathered at Park West Theatre where the new 15th New Talent Singing Contest champion was named and crowned. All of this was made possible by New World Entertainment and Star Entertainment with the help of Hong Kong Club and its members: Minnie Moy, Ronnie Kaan, See Y. Wong, Eddie Lau, Peter Siu, Michael, Lorron, Rose and Sammy Luk and a special thanks to Eddie Lau, See Y. Wong and Ronnie Kaan for helping with the promotions of this special event.
We were honored to have special guests masters of ceremony Paul Wong and Janet Liu for our preliminary stage at Furama Restaurant. We saw many talented young individuals and many stood out. Out of all the contestants, 10 finalists were named to go onto the final competition on June the 2nd. These 10 lucky finalists were, in no particular order: Vivian Mo, Warren Lam, Wong Wai Kong, Wanye Yeung, Alice Au, Lee Chi Yin, Benny Ng, David Chen, Judy Chen, Yuen Yee Ting, Allen Tsang, Millie Chu, Leslie Lam, Jeffrey Wu and Lee Tik Wai.
As our judges and contestants enjoyed a few days away from the nerve-wracking competition, we come together again at Park West Theatre to find out who will be the new 15th New Talent Singing Contest Winner. With us for the final competition, we welcomed Janet Liu and Dominick Lam Kar Wah as our masters of ceremony. Our contestants put on their best performance and of the 15 finalists, here are a couple who stood out to our judges. The finalist whom judges thought had the best vocals was Wong Wai Kong. The finalist that put on the best performance was Allen Tsang. The finalist that had the best presentation was Alice Au. Our judges saw in one finalist who had future star potential, that finalist was Vivian Mo. The one who put on the best musical was Judy Chen. The judges’ favorite singer of the night was Benny Ng. Congratulations to those who got special nominations before finding out our top three winners. Coming in at third place was Alice Au who judges thought put on the best performance. At second place was finalist Warren Lam and our number 1 winner of the night was Judy Chen with the best musical.
Congratulations again to all the finalists and winners that participated in the 15th New Talent Singing Contest. Though some went home with empty hands, they gained an experience and memories that last a life time.
The 15th New Talent Mid-Central USA Singing Contest was successful due to all the wonderful and talented contestants and our amazing staff. Now we would like to give a special thanks to our auditor Peter Siu, Minnie Moy who was in charge of hair and image, our photographer Wesley Ng, security personnel Sammy Luk, guests Janet Liu, Paul Wong, and Dominick Lam Kar Wah. This was a long and tough journey for our contestants and judges, but the new talents that were discovered were worth the trial. Thank you to all those who came out to support this event and the contestants, we hope to see you all again next year with many more new talents.
